"Making Motorcycling Safer"

Further training

Keep learning after you've passed your test!

The best riders keep learning. We work alongside the Lancashire Constabulary's Northern Division Road Policing Unit as part of the ongoing Bikesafe 2000+ motorcycle casualty reduction campaign. This started as a two-day workshop devised for those new to biking or seeking to improve their skills. Liaison officer PC Keith Collins says "our campaign intends to educate motorcyclists in how they can be safe on the road, and encourage them to take further training." Interested? Training: Compulsory Basic Training and Direct Access are described in our Training page.

Refresher training: safe biking for life

Everyone is different! Over the years, we have been asked for many different types of advanced/refresher training. We believe correct training needs to be identified with the individual on a one-to-one basis to establish the needs and levels of that individual. We have developed a rider training programme called "Safe Biking for Life".

This course is tailored to the individual, enabling you to get the very best out of your machine and reduce your chances of being involved in an accident. We conduct an initial one-hour assessment ride and produce a comprehensive written report of your strengths and weaknesses, enabling us to provide the best possible training for you.

Commuter training

Most accidents happen in built-up areas, where there is most traffic. High-speed spills in rural areas are less common. Do you feel vulnerable riding a bike or moped through the town centre?

If you gained a car license before 1 February 2001, or if you have a full car license and have taken moped CBT, you can ride a moped on the road without L-plates. However, riding a moped is not like driving a car. You need to use a totally different set of skills.

Bikes'r'Safe have devised a half-day course designed specifically for car drivers who wish to ride a moped using their full car license. We will show you how to:

  • ride defensively
  • recognise hazards
  • brake correctly
  • take effective observation
  • filter and meet traffic
  • arrive safely

Advanced motorcycling

"Advanced training" can, and does, mean many things. Everyone's idea of it is different, as are their needs. Any training taken after passing the DSA test can be classified as "Advanced Training".

For more information about our advanced motorcycling training, have a look at the Safe Riding section. As part of the Safe Riding for Life course, your assessor can notify you when he considers your riding to be of the standard required to take an advanced test e.g. ROSPA, IAM, The Edge etc. This is optional, as the word TEST strikes terror into some people.
